Pasig City has officially launched the Chikiting Ligtas Campaign as part of its weekly flag raising ceremony held on May 2, 2023. The campaign aims to ensure that children aged 59 months and below who have not yet been vaccinated or are lacking in vaccines are given the appropriate vaccines for their age to prevent diseases such as measles (tigdas), rubella, and polio. These diseases are highly contagious but can be prevented through vaccination. The vaccines used for children are safe, effective, and have been used in other countries to protect children from the aforementioned diseases.

The launching program included the signing of the Pledge of Commitment by various stakeholders in the city, including elected officials (Mayor, Vice Mayor, City Council), the City Health Department, representatives from Pasig's barangays, as well as representatives from private and public hospitals in the city. The Pledge of Commitment symbolizes their support for the Chikiting Ligtas Campaign and its proper implementation.

To kick off the campaign, a ceremonial vaccination was also held, where 10 children from Barangay Sumilang were vaccinated against rubella and measles (tigdas) and received oral drops for polio.

In Pasig City, it is estimated that around 60,000 children aged 9-59 months are targeted to receive measles and rubella vaccines, while around 70,000 children aged 0-59 months are targeted to receive oral polio vaccines. The Chikiting Ligtas Campaign will run throughout the month of May. To know the vaccination schedule in your area, visit the Barangay Health Center nearest your home.

The Chikiting Ligtas Campaign is an important initiative of Pasig City to ensure the safety and health of its young citizens. By working together, the government and the community can protect children from preventable diseases and provide a brighter future for the next generation.
