Sotto assures transparency in Pasig transactions
Pasig City Mayor Vico Sotto has assured the public of full transparency of contracts that will result in reduction in expenses.
He said the prices of all government contracts during his term will decrease by at least 10 percent.
“I guarantee that during my administration, the prices of all government contracts will decrease by at least 10 percent,” Sotto said in a Facebook post.
The 30-year old mayor, who earlier said that transparency in governance was one of his top priorities, said they will “truly” open the public bidding of contracts to hit the target figure.
“Bubuksan natin ng tunay ang public bidding. Kaibigan o kalaban, welcome mag-bid. Wala akong papanigan, walang lutuan (We will truly open the public bidding. Friends or foes are welcome to bid. I won’t side with anyone, it will be fair),” he said.
Sotto said an observer from a non-government organization (NGO) will monitor all the processes to be undertaken by the Bids and Awards Committee (BAC).
An independent monitoring team and a technical working group with experts on certain areas will be also created, the mayor added.
He also stressed that he will not accept kickbacks from government contracts.
“Wala akong pakialam kung may magalit. Tatalikuran natin ang mga maling kalakaran at gagawin ang naaayon lamang sa batas (I do not care if someone will get angry. We will turn our backs from illegal practices and only execute what is allowed by the law),” Sotto said.
“Ang pondong matitipid natin sa mas mababang presyo ng mga kagamitan at serbisyo ay babalik sa taumbayan bilang karagdagang gamot at scholarship (The funds that will be saved up from cheaper equipment and services will be returned to the people for additional medicines and scholarship funds,)” he added.
