Pasig to pass anti-discrimination ordinance

A councilor of Pasig City on Thursday said he would prioritize the passage of an anti-discrimination ordinance.

Councilor Rhichie Brown said he tried to introduce a similar ordinance in 2014 but it failed to get approval.

He said he was confident the ordinance would be passed under Mayor Vico Sotto.

Brown said he would base his version of the ordinance on the 2014 Anti-Discrimination Ordinance of Quezon City, which was the first Metro Manila local government unit to pass such a measure.

The Quezon City ordinance was hailed at the time as the most comprehensive local law protecting LGBT (lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender) residents in schools, workplaces, and communities.

Marikina, Mandaluyong, and Malabon have also passed anti-discrimination ordinances.
