Pasig apprehends over 1,400 truck ban violators
Pasig City apprehended 1,448 truck ban violators in September 2019, according to Mayor Vico Sotto.
According to the graph posted by Sotto online, truck ban violators apprehended for the month of September went up by 816 from 632 violators in August.
“Ang nakikita sa infographic ay isang patunay na unti-unti tayong nagtatagumpay laban sa kotong (What the infographic shows is a proof that we are gradually succeeding in our fight against extortion),” Sotto said in a Facebook post.
The mayor lamented that when he assumed the city’s top post in July, many violators of the ban were able to evade apprehension for they have “protectors.”
“Pang-aabuso ito sa puwesto na nagdadagdag pa ng perwisyo sa mga mananakay (This is an abuse to power that adds to the burden of the commuters),” Sotto noted.
Based on the graph posted by Sotto, 310 violators of the ban were apprehended during the final month of former Mayor Robert “Bobby” Eusebio’s term.
Sotto expects that the number of truck ban violators will go down after months of “consistent” apprehensions.
He said fines collected from violators will be used to purchase bike racks and shuttles.
