Pasig observes Rabies Awareness Month

The Pasig City government has joined the celebration of Rabies Awareness Month this March with the theme "Rabies-free na pusa't aso, kaligtasan ng pamilyang Pilipino" (Rabies-free cats and dogs, safety for Filipino families).

As part of the celebration, a program was held on March 1, 2023, at the Pasig City Hall Quadrangle, featuring messages from Mayor Vico Sotto, Vice Mayor Dodot Jaworski, and various officials from government agencies.

The program also awarded recognition to the Best Barangay Rabies Program Implementers and Field Control of Strays. A highlight of the kick-off ceremony was the provision of free anti-rabies vaccination, RFID microchipping, and castration for cats and dogs.

In total, 156 pets received anti-rabies vaccinations, 133 pets were microchipped, and 125 pre-registered pets underwent the castration process.

The project aims to advance Pasig City as a Rabies-Free City and ensure the protection of animals from any disease. The Pasig City Veterinary Services Department, in cooperation with various government agencies and pet partners such as Vitality Dog Food Ph, PET ONE Pet Food, Nutri Chunks PH, and Doggies’s Choice, made this project possible.

This program is a significant step towards raising public awareness and participation in animal welfare, particularly in reducing the spread of rabies, a deadly virus transmitted through the bites of infected animals.

The Pasig City government, together with its partner organizations, continues to prioritize the health and safety of its citizens and their pets.
