Pasig closes down meat processing plant
The Pasig City government on Tuesday shut down a meat processing plant for allegedly operating without a proper waste facility.
Pasig City Mayor Vico Sotto ordered the closure of the plant after conducting a surprise inspection at the facility on Tuesday morning.
“Ordered the closure of a meat processing plant in Bagong Ilog. They have had no STP (sewage treatment plant) for years,” Sotto said.
“Their waste water (often with blood) was going into our drainage system and into our river,” he added.
Under the Clean Water Act of 2004, illegal discharge of wastes to bodies of water is a prohibited offence.
The law also states that violators will be slapped with a fine of a maximum of P200,000.
