The National Capital Region Police Office (NCRPO) has deployed cops in major areas of Metro Manila to ensure a peaceful and safe Bonifacio Day in commemoration of the hero's 158th birth anniversary on Tuesday, according to a report by Philippine News Agency.

NCRPO chief Maj. Gen. Vicente Danao Jr. said the five police districts deployed a considerable number of personnel in their respective areas, augmented by police from the regional headquarters.

The five districts covered by the NCRPO are the Manila Police District, Quezon City Police District, Northern Police District, Southern Police District, and Eastern Police District (EPD).

“We are prepared for any eventualities but as usual, though we have prepared for the worst-case scenario, the expectation of a peaceful and safe celebration remains,” Danao said in a statement.

Andres Bonifacio Day is a national public holiday in the Philippines, celebrated every November 30 in memory of the birth anniversary of Andres Bonifacio, who is considered as the “Father of the Philippine Revolution".

He is remembered on his birthday, Nov. 30, 1863, rather than the date of his death, May 10, 1897, as he was executed by fellow Filipinos.

He led the establishment of the secret revolutionary movement “Kataas-taasang, Kagalang-galangang Katipunan ng mga Anak ng Bayan”, more commonly known as the “Katipunan,” to secure the Philippines’ independence from Spain.

Bonifacio was one of the chief Katipunan officers and emerged as the “Supremo” (Supreme leader) in 1895.
